Here’s the top 10 most popular Workshop projects of the year by pageviews:

 1. D.I.Y. deck built from scratch by @Tara86

Tara shared a photo of this fantastic project as her first post on Workshop, adding that she was “proud of my partner and I” to have completed their first deck from scratch. The community has certainly agreed that the couple did a terrific job with the outdoor entertaining space.

2. Handmade barn doors by @peta

Sliding barn doors have been one of the hottest trends in home improvement in recent years, helping to partition large spaces while acting as an attractive feature. Peta shared two wonderful examples from her home, saying that she was keen to replace all the doors in the house.

3. Raised garden beds made from fence palings by @Poppop

Workshop member Dave made these two planter boxes from treated pine fence palings as a Christmas gift for his sister. He finished them with a coat of linseed oil.

Rob’s inventive renovation of a classic 70s Millard van was inspired by the iconic Penguin Classic range of books and beat generation tome On the Road by Jack Kerouac. The popular project was Rob’s first solo venture after completing three previous caravans last year with an experienced tradie mate.

6. Makeover for the side of the house by @shayden06

Narrow areas down the side of a house can be very tricky to deal with, but this combination of decking and garden is a wonderfully practical solution for easy access as well as creating a space for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

7. New shed storage project by @Tara86

An organised, clutter-free workshop is a popular goal, and this is a great example of what can be achieved using customised storage even with relatively limited space. The portable workbench is a particularly smart idea, and the discussion also includes handy storage ideas from other community members.

8. New outdoor entertaining area by @danieltheman

Workshop member Daniel had “never built anything” in his life. But after a fire damaged an old patio, Daniel constructed this stunning deck that has been hugely admired by the community.
