Can I just turn it anti clockwise to remove the valve to enable me to replace the seal?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your Caroma Uniset.
You are correct the base of the flushing valve must be turned anti-clockwise. However, I recommend being careful as the unit seems to be a few years old. It's possible that the plastic has turned brittle, please take care not to use too much force when turning the plastic valve.
