How to replace old basin spindles?

hey all,

think its about time i go and change all my basin spindles, years of changing the o rings and valves the threads are looking worn.

i went to my local bunnings and they seem to out of stock but having a look at the shaw and mason brands the spindles look different to mine (these brands at the top where my tap handles sit have 'teeths' but mine are flat/smooth, so wanting to know would any spindle as long as its the same size be a good replacement? or would i need to replace and get new tap sets. cheers

Re: Want to replace my 10+ yr old basin spindle please assist

Hello @mubsy

One way to find out if your handle is compatible with the Shaw & Mason 1/4 Turn Clockwise Chrome Plate Ceramic Disc Basin Spindle is to test it. I suggest going to your local store with your spindle and handle and speaking to the plumbing specialist and asking them to test the handle on one of the wall displays.

Another method is to purchase the Shaw & Mason Chrome Cross-Style Star Tap Handle that fits onto the ceramic spindle. Please make sure to ask the plumbing specialist if they have the cross-style tap handle as an assembly.  Purchasing it as a set is much more practical than buying individual pieces.

Please keep us updated with your progress, we look forward to seeing your upgraded basin taps.

If you need further assistance, please let us know,

Eric
