This fire pit area with hanging chairs provides a perfect setting for year-round relaxation.
I wanted somewhere quiet and relaxing to sit and have a coffee or a cocktail after a long day at work, and for lazing around in and and having a nap or reading a book. I decided to make this fire pit and seating area, and I did it all myself.
I levelled the ground, which involved shovelling a lot of sand, gravel and rock and installing a small retaining wall. I decorated with some small plants and fairy lights.
The swing chairs were easy. I dug the holes and concreted in some Pine posts, then I attached another Pine post to the top of it and secured it with long screws and brackets.
Then I placed wider Pine on the front and back of the top post to give it a nicer finish, and attached the two smaller diagonal pieces in the corners to give it extra support. I put long eye bolts in the top beam and used shackles to hold up the chairs.
There was a bit to it but it was easy enough. It's an amazing area to sit in and relax by the fire, or for spending time with friends and family.
A well-designed fire pit provides a great space to come together with friends and family and can work as a decorative element in the landscape. Follow this step-by-step guide by experienced Bunnings Workshop community member Adam to build your own.

This looks amazing! 100% would chillout here.
What was theprocess for laying the pebbles? What layers did you have underneath and how thick?
Thank you
Tamara
And what pebbles did you use?
Thank you
Hello @Tamaraskie
Let me tag @cmp3121 to make them aware of your kind words and questions. I believe they used a compactor to level the sand, gravel and rocks. It would also be practical to use a weedmat or builder's plastic to block any potential weeds from coming through the pebbles.
Looking at the picture the pebbles look like they are Tuscan Path 10kg 10 - 25mm Polished Mix Pebbles. If you decide to give this project a go, please don't forget to post an update. I'm sure our members would be keen to see how you would design your outdoor firepit area.
