Can I drill into a brick column?

Can I drill into a brick column?

I'd like to mount a bike hook - something like  https://www.bunnings.com.au/handy-storage-wall-mounted-bike-and-helmet-hook_p0074299 - in my garage.

The only free spot is this one brick wide column in between these NBN / meter boxes. Is it safe to drill into and mount things to that column - how strong is it going to be?

Re: Can I drill into a brick column?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @GeorgeB. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about mounting a bike rack.

I can't see any issues in mounting the bracket onto that column. It's not as if you're mounting a boxing bag that will see extreme force put on the bracket and bricks. Your bike would be considered a relatively lightweight object in the realm of hanging items on brick.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
