3 things to do in the garden in autumn

Autumn is a great time to be out in the garden.

Robert Chin (@robchin), product compliance manager at Bunnings, shares his top three tips on what to do in your garden during autumn to ensure your plants are healthy and look terrific throughout the year ahead.

1. Make your own compost

Rake your autumn leaves and compost them. This is a great way to reduce garden waste and make useful compost for applying to your garden next season. Many gardeners have two compost bins set up. One which they are currently using and one which is full and breaking down.

Horticulturalist and Bunnings Workshop member @Noelle shares How to make compost for your garden.

2. Plant flowering bulbs

Flowering bulbs are a great way to add colour in your garden. Autumn is the perfect time of year to plant bulbs as the will have enough time to grow before they are ready to flourish in spring.

The Bunnings team shares more advice in Flowering bulbs to plant in autumn.

3. Get mulching

Mulch helps retain moisture in your soil and is a great way of keeping your plants healthy while inhibiting weed growth. Top up existing mulch to a total depth of 50-75mm or add mulch to your gardens that aren't already mulched to the same depth.

Great idea about the mulching @Akanksha. I didn't realise autumn was an ideal time to do it!
