There is lots you can do in the garden to ensure your plants remain healthy as cooler weather approaches. Qualified horticulturalist and Bunnings Workshop member Noelle Weatherley (Noelle) advises three easy things you can do to prepare your garden for the winter.
1. Plant winter vegies in autumn
Any new plants, including winter vegies and herbs, you want to put in this autumn for winter colour or harvesting should be planted by mid to late March at the latest.
Reap the benefit of warm soils and mild temperatures that will help them become well established before cold weather sets in and slows growth right down.

2. Protect your plants from frost
Even a light frost may burn soft plants with the damage mostly occurring at or just after sunrise, when the overnight temperature is lowest. If a frost hits, hose it off before sunrise to avoid damage.

3. Feed your garden
Seasonal colour and vegies will benefit from regular applications of liquid tonics and plant food over the colder months to keep them actively growing. Nutrients should be readily available as plants need them, which is why liquid is best at this time of the year.
