How to make a drainable saucer for pot?

I want to put a saucer under a potted fig, but have the saucer drain in winter. I was thinking of using something like a silicone baking tray on a stand (and turning it inside out in winter) and the largest tapered half barrel.

Would this work?

Does anyone know the diameter of the base of the 'barrel'?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Joanne87. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about drainable saucers.

That sounds like it could potentially work.

Were you considering a timber barrel like the Tuscan Path 55cm Half Barrel Wooden Planter or a resin version like the Northcote Pottery 57cm Oak Whiskey Barrel? Once we know which one you're looking at, we can find out those base measurements for you.

Hello @Joanne87

The bottom size of the Northcote Pottery 57cm Oak Whiskey Barrel is 43cm. Just in case you are wondering the store does carry 45cm plastic saucers.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
