How to replace cast iron bench slats?

I have an old cast iron garden bench and I want to replace the timber slats that form the seat.

What should I use for this, are there pre cut slats available ?

Re: cast iron bench slats

Hi @Sticker,

I'd suggest that the closest timber to the dimensions of the slats would be 42 x 18mm 2.7m FJ Pre Oiled Merbau Screening. Do you think that would work?

Hi @MitchellMc and @Sticker

42 x 18mm 2.7m FJ Pre Oiled Merbau Screening.

I believe that would work. If it is the same generic cast iron sides as mine - I went with 45mm X 25mm with just enough wriggle room to feed the slat through. But - I think from memory I put them through a table saw to get 45mm. I went with 25mm as being exposed to the elements anything smaller cracked when large human beings sat down. 😔

Re: cast iron bench slats

My apologies @Sticker

Looking closer - the construction is different to mine.

Specsavers. 😞
