The project:
Backyard was a jungle..
Decided a SPA was a must, so off to Bunnings. Raised decking was the go, Glass fencing looks fantastic and allows a clear view of the footy game in the workshop window.. deck LED lighting and the cantilever umbrella for that Perth sunshine.
The SPA uses fresh water, pumped out to lawns and gardens on retic days, then automatically refills.. all controlled via a Raspberry PI & web page (also controls heating & filtering).. built the workshop too!
- Materials:
Eco deck decking and 2 boxes of embedded fasteners, 40 bags of quick cement, 25 galvanised joist stirrups, Various size lumber for infrastructure, 2 x sets of embedded LED garden lights, 3m cantilever umbrella, Electrical wiring, switches, weatherproof boxes, a dozen SS hinges, conduit, audio cabling, retic cabling, Ozito pump, a mountain of retic piping, connectors, solenoids and glue. various fasteners, Glass pool fencing sheets and door - sizes to address the perimeter. Stainless stirrups and hinges, 5x large soak wells (rain & if SPA purging is required)
- Tools:
Bunnings purchased tools: AEG drill, angle grinder, Large angle grinder, reciprocal saw, hammer driver, many drill bits, Laser leveller, shovels, crowbar, circular saw, jigsaw, 2 x LED lighting stands, MANY clamps, 3x10m tape measures, many hand tools eg: screwdrivers etc..

- Step 1:
Laser align and cement in each stirrup.
Cut, treat and fix the large lumber, same for upper trusses lumber.
Position and plumb spa, pumps, piping, conduit and cabling, solenoids and valves etc.
lay/fix down ecodeck decking each cut to length, section along wall is hinged to access operational components.
cut holes in ecodeck and cement for LED lights & cabling.
tradies in for gas and AC electrics.
Drill in stirrups, shimming for height/vertical, insert each glass panel & door
Cantilever umbrella into cement mount
build raspberry PI controller and programming/web interface (non Bunnings)
- Step 2:
It's all pretty well maintenance free and automatic.
A lot of initial configuring & testing was involved, you can imagine the wiring and plumbing involved to automate all this into reticulation.
The 9x7 workshop was also DIY built, with a lot of Bunnings materials and tools, but the Woodland Grey sheets were sourced elsewhere.
Have just bought a Bunnings wood fired pizza oven to go on the deck (that grey ecodeck is for the stand it'll sit on)
Oh, and yes.. that's a Shelby Cobra roadster waiting to be built - next project!
