How to replace a traditional skylight with a solar skylight?

I have an old ‘Solatube’ skylight in my second bedroom. I have just discovered solar powered skylights & think this would be a better option.
Wondering if I can ‘swap’ these over? Obviously I would need to block the hole in the roof - but would I also need to remove the tube part of the existing skylight? How complicated would it be to remove the existing skylight?

Re: Replacing a traditional skylight with a solar skylight

Hi @Scootergirl,

I see no reason why you'd need to remove the existing Solartube. It could just be disconnected from the plaster and the trim removed from the ceiling. The ceiling should be repaired by installing a new piece of plaster. You'd then be free to install your solar-powered skylight

Removing the trim from the plaster should not be all that involved. Provided the tile port and tube do not leak, I'd just leave them in place.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
