How to strengthen a timber plant stand?

Hello, I have a timber plant stand that wobbles more than stands at the moment. There seem to be three slim nails on each side. Two sides are coming apart (see pictures - this is correct way up - the pot sits within the longer exposed timber.

to strengthen the pot stand and prevent the ceramic pot falling through - would liquid nails do the job with the help of a mallet for a seamless line?

Re: strengthening a timber plant stand

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Julie10. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about fixing a plant stand.

You could try Liquid Nails or even PVA glue should work. I'd be inclined to pop a screw in each joint, though, to help hold it together. Pre-drill through the leg and into the end of the support, and then screw through. If you weren't confident in doing that, installing a small mending plate across the joint would also work.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How to strengthen a timber plant stand?

Hi @Julie10

Did you get your repairs done?

My suggestion would be similar to @MitchellMc: for each of the legs, apply glue in the gap between the leg & the end of the cross piece & also fit 1 (or 2) screws thru the leg & into the end of the cross piece--note that you might have to pre-drill into the end of the cross-pice before gluing depending on the "depth" of the leg & the length of the drill bit; suggest 15-20mm of depth for the screw.

Or you could fit a reinforcing bracket to each leg under the the cross piece & attach it to the leg.

Cheers, Peter
