How to paint a concrete porch?

Hello,

I'd like to paint our porch and have tried before using a latex exterior paint but after drying it was clear it hadn't adhered. I ended up peeling it of. The photo below is it's original state. I believe it's concete mixed with an oxide to give it that redish colour.

I want to ahieve a similiar colour if possible, hard wearing and not to slippery when it's wet.

How would I go about doing this?

Re: Painting concrete porch

Hi @deebsey,

Thank you for your question about painting a concrete porch and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you join us.

I'd suggest you check out the Dulux Concrete & Paving range. It is a 3 step, tintable system that can give your concrete porch a new lease on life. It is stocked in Bunnings stores and can be tinted to whatever colour you wish from the Dulux range.

As it doesn't appear your concrete has a sealer on it, you would start with the Dulux 2L Concrete And Paving Bare Concrete Etch And Clean, followed by Dulux 4L Concrete and Paving Bare Concrete Primer

Once prepared you would select your stage 3 product based on the colour and finish you would like to achieve. The helpful team at your local Bunnings will be happy to offer advice and assistance with selecting the right product for your specific needs.

You could also add Dulux 300G Concrete & Paving Anti Slip Additive to increase the slip rating of the surface to prevent a nasty fall.

Dulux Concrete & Paving has a wealth of knowledge you can use to select your products and information on the installation.

Let me know if you have any further questions, I am more than happy to help.

Re: Painting concrete porch

Hi Jacob,

Thanks very much for the advice, also the first 2 products aren't as pricey as I'd expected which is good!

Glad it's possible for me to achieve as I had initially thought it would require some kind of sanding down of concrete using specialist equipment

All the best.

Re: Painting concrete porch

Hi @deebsey,

No need for sanding in this case but it's important that you use all 3 stages of this system to ensure the best results.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns and keep us updated with your project, it would be great to see the finished product.

Jacob
