A vertical garden can offer a fantastic screening solution to enliven a plain wall or fence. It can also provide more growing space for herbs, flowers and vegetables.

1. Wire cable
Training climbers to screen a fence by @royq
Roy camouflaged a Colorbond fence with a living screen of fast-growing Chinese Star Jasmine using criss-crossed wire cable, and has inspired countless other Workshop members to do the same.

Community member Gina used sturdy balustrade wiring vertically to create her Jasmine green wall, hiding the red brick.
2. Reinforcing mesh

Workshop member Rod created this vertical herb garden with planter boxes made out of decking attached to reinforcing (reo) mesh.

3. Timber

Experienced member Judy's self-watering vertical garden allows her to grow more in a compact space and is also an attractive screening solution.
4. Hooks

To create this vertical garden, the Whites Garden Up range was secured to the fence with screws.

Workshop member chowie built this hanging herb garden using Merbau decking boards and Whites Garden Up vertical garden pots and herb wire hooks.
Brendan was able to grow baby beetroot, mini red onion, spring onions and chilli in these hanging pots.
5. Terracotta pots

Darren's vertical garden turned this plain brick wall into an attractive feature with five rows of terracotta pots ready for planting.

6. Synthetic felt pockets
Outdoor entertaining area with vertical garden and pond by @Wados
Community member Wados used builder's plastic over cement sheet and then synthetic felt pockets for over 400 plant cuttings when creating a spectacular backyard feature.
7. Succulent frames

Using treated Pine nailed together with 45 degree mitres, sphagnum moss and chicken wire, community member Gregor decorated bare walls.
8. Recycled items
Recycled timber pallet succulent display by @AndrewLee
Andrew added succulent pots to a painted pallet and created a wonderful vertical garden feature.

For this very popular project, Kaylah used vintage tins and fragrant herbs to add character to her fence and backyard.
