Handle on the inside of my screen door had been loose as in it would not return to its usual position (perpendicular to the door) and now it comes off completely with a piece of spring that also "sprung" out of the handle. This oily piece of spring looks to be broken off from inside of the handle. Is this repairable? If so, how?
Hi @ArayaArai,
I imagine repairing might be difficult but that our resident Bunnings D.I.Y. expert in @EricL will be more than happy to recommend replacement handles. He would need the dimensions to suggest a suitable replacement. Would you like to provide some measurements so he can assist when he is back on the site later today?
Thanks,
Jason
Hello @ArayaArai
Thanks for sharing your question about your broken screen door handle. It is difficult to gauge how much internal damage has happened to your door handle. The spring in your hand is actually a part of the return mechanism of the handle. It is usually filled with grease as it is always in constant motion when the handle is being turned.
The handle itself is kept in place with a circlip. But if the groove for the circlip is worn out, I'm afraid the entire set will need to be replaced. In order to find a possible replacement, can you please post a photo of the entire door handle with a tape measure beside it? In this manner we'll be able to tell how tall the housing is and the distance of the handle to the lock itself.
However, if you are in a hurry to replace it, I suggest visiting your local store and bringing the handle and one of the faceplates of the door lock to the store. This will give our hardware specialist a chance to match your set with the sets available at the store.
