How to fix draughty front door?

My front door does not fit tight to the frame therefore allowing a draught to come into the house. The space is around the entire door including the bottom of the door. What can be done to block the draught coming into the house.

Re: How to fix draughty front door?

Hi @1250,

When the wooden door is closed, can you see the weather strip around the door compressing?

These weather strips rely on the foam compressing against a surface to stop the flow of air in behind. If you are still experiencing draught coming around the door, it may be a case of the door not compressing the foam enough. If this is the case, you may need to consider removing the existing weather seal, measuring the gap when the door is closed, and adding a thicker weather seal to suit.

Something like this Moroday 16 x 10mm x 5m Black Self Adhesive D-Shape Weather Strip might be suitable depending on the size of the gap. You'll see that this strip is designed with a cavity in the centre which allows the weather strip to compress, creating the seal you'll need to stop the draught.

If you find upon inspection that this is not the reason for the draught continuing to get through, we may need to do some further investigation.
