How to prepare this wall for painting?

Hi all,

Ive recently had my kitchen renovated. Some cabinets were removed from the wall and now I’d like to paint the walls. Unsure of the best way to do this. I’ve read that I need some sort of sealant for the concrete but do I need to sand the wall first? 
I’d really appreciate any help on steps to take and/or products to use

Thank you for sharing your question about how to prepare your rendered wall for painting. This is a bit of a tricky situation as part of your wall has been covered with a sealing agent. If you look at your painted wall and where the cabinets use to be, you'll notice that they have a uniform speckled surface. Whereas the part where your splashback use to be is sort of flat.    

If we were to paint it now that flat surface will be noticeable. I recommend using a Trojan 5x15 Row Stainless Steel Wire Brush on the flat surface of your wall to bring back the speckled surface of the render. Just be careful not to overdo it to avoid damaging the render. However, if this does not bother you and you only wish to paint over it, I suggest using British Paints 2L White Low Sheen Interior Paint And Prime. 

To prepare your wall, I propose using a stiff broom or bristle brush to remove any loose dust or debris on the wall before you start painting.
