My son and daughter in-law had a situation, kitchen was literally falling apart, doors falling off and draw fronts coming away. The laundry was not user a user friendly space and storage was of the ultimate. The entire layout was atrocious and needed a long earned tweek.
We decided to change it up to make the whole area a more flowing concept, lots and lots of work to even get to a stage where it could be usable, as one could imagine, older houses are a pain to renovate when you start to think about plumbing and electrical, walls out of square, walls not plumb, and the list goes on.......
Firstly the old kitchen had to go, and the adjoining laundry wall had to go, as did the entire laundry actually, which was moved outside. All the floor tiles had to come up and the concrete floor had to be patched, this went on to include the hallway and the lounge-room as well!!
The laundry became a butlers pantry, and the linen press that was facing into the old laundry, got turned around and now faces into the adjoining bathroom, part of the old laundry formed a nook for the fridge (which really needed a home as it was sitting in no mans land, and a large bulk storage was created above it in the pantry, which also included some open storage shelves. The window in the old kitchen was removed and an opening created, you will see by the pictures what I mean.
The kitchen removal took some help from the plumbers, plasterers and electricians, but basically it was a gloss egg white Kaboodle kitchen with solid timber tops, which we made from the 2400 x 1200 timber slabs available in store with black handles. The splash back was an onyx colored acrylic which added a nice highlighting color touch. The same concept was used for the Butlers pantry as well. Down lights were installed and the old oyster lights removed (in the lounge room and hallway as well).
My son enjoyed painting the house while we finished the construction of the kitchen, which was done in my shed at home. He and his wife also enjoyed removing all the old floor tiles and then scraping all the old tile glue off the floor, they were impressed to say the least. The new flooring was a sort of spotted gum vinyl tile which was also glued down. The whole project has given a complete face lift to their home and all done through Bunnings options.
The guys that helped with the Kaboodle design were awesome as well is the on-line app that you can use yourself for design.
With the help of all the local Bunnings staff, this project was made easier, but the labor involved was an absolute killer.
We have uploaded as many of the before photos as possible so you can see what we had to deal with. The after photos really tell a nice story.
