How to install kitchen laminate benchtop?

Hi folks,

Firstly I would like to know if this is something possible by myself or not. If yes, I am planning to do this over next few weeks else I would like to leave it to capable hands. I prefer the first one.

I would like to change the laminate benchtops in my kitchen. I have seen some videos but mostly they are perfect rectangle but mine is angular. Attached are the images.

So here is my plan: I would like to change the laminate benchtop,where cooktop is and also where the sink is. And also, I would like to change the sink ( a fancy one) while I will be doing this project. I have done some rough measurements but I wanted to know if this doable.

Constructing and installing your own benchtops would be considered a rather ambitious task. However, I'd encourage you to give it a go if you have the correct tools and are confident in your abilities. Some essential skills include making perfectly straight and angular cuts with no tear-out, the ability to do plunge cuts with a circular saw for the sink and stove cut-out (a relatively advanced cutting technique), and taking precise measurements and transferring those exactly. If you are out by even a few degrees on those angular corner cuts, then you won't be able to achieve a satisfactory fit-out. Even experienced tradespersons can have difficulty with those.

I'm all for you giving it a go, and our helpful members and I will be there for you every step of the way. However, you need to consider that making mistakes when cutting a benchtop can be costly. Given this, I'd first urge you to speak with a helpful Kitchen Expert at your local Bunnings store. You might find that all these sections of benchtop can be pre-cut for you by the manufacturer. All that you'd need to do then is the assembly. I'm confident you could easily assemble and install the pre-cut benchtops.

@MitchellMc You exactly spoke what I was thinking about.

I am a little nervous about the measurements and what if small degree of cut would bring major difference. We are planning to put new sink on there also.

I will make sure to talk with Bunnings Kitchen expert. Like you said, I need to find the manufacturers and having to cut from them. I think assembling would not be a big problem ( I think, we can manage that).

I am based in Gold Coast, any hint where I should begin to research or reach out to people from?

Installing the benchtop, sink, and tapware would be an achievable project @Sugar. Getting someone to do those cuts for you will remove most of the risk involved.

Talking to your local Bunnings store's Kitchen Expert would be a great place to start. They can take you through the options and finishes available for your benchtop and let you know what cuts the manufacturer can make. You'll then have a good idea of what other trades you need to involve in the project.
