Upcycled filing cabinet

Upcycled this tall 3 draw Filing cabinet. Initially I wanted a shabby Chic look to it. So used a Rustoleum chalk paint in Serenity Blue and left the top and top draw in chocolate colour stain. Personally I liked it, found it to look unique.

But, when posted up for sale, customer asked if we could changed the colour to black.

It looked even better in the black finish. The handles were spray painted in gold.

Initial colour: Rustoleum Chalk Serenity Blue

Sealer: Cabinets crystal clear satin

New paint: British Paints Black

I like both of your finishes @Lmassih, but the shabby chic version wins for me. It would add so much interest to a space. I guess it depends on your other decor, though.

What sort of preparation work did you need to do before painting? Did you sand all the varnish off or apply a specialised primer?

Yes I loved the shabby chic look. I find it a quite interesting look and feel in a room.

We used zinsser as primer, we didn't really sand that much. Part from the top and the top draw. Everything else we used the Zinsser primer. This project took us a week to complete. And to change it to black, took us 3 days to complete.
