Getting ready for spring

It has been a busy month in the garden getting ready for Spring. I have been planting seeds in the greenhouse to get a head start, purchased more pots for pumpkins, cucumbers, squash and melons, put in another arch and some last minute fruit trees for the mini orchard. I have also purchased a couple of Birdies round raised garden beds to grow some salad vegetables.

Purchased the last of the bare rooted fruit trees for our mini orchard. I have 17 in there so far and just need to pick up a Washington Naval . I will be growing pumpkins between them this year, I have prepared little compost piles. 

I mulch all my pots, veggie beds and around fruit trees with Sugarcane. 

Birdies beds. These are amazing quality and an Australian company available online or from Bunnings. They were easy to put together and I did them both this afternoon,  keeping me occupied while I’m in isolation. Checkout my Facebook @Lisa’s Garden or @lisaandlisa on Instagram for a fun video 🤣

It looks like you'll hit Spring running @LisasGarden! Congrats on the article; you must have been super excited to see it come out.

I might try planting some pumpkins this year. I've got a few locations where I wouldn't mind them having the run of the yard. I'd also be keen to do some sweet potatoes. The raised Birdies beds would be excellent for sweet potatoes if you swapped the standard nuts out with some wingnuts. You could feed the bolt from inside to out and have the wingnut on the outside. When it's time to harvest, you'd undo the wingnuts, and the two sides would come apart. You could then rake through the soil to remove the potatoes. If you did that right, I'd imagine you could get a massive crop out of one bed. That might be possible to do with the standard nuts, but I haven't had a good look at them myself.

It's always lovely to see how your garden is coming along, and I trust it is just the inspiration many of our members need to kickstart the Spring preparations.
