Just wondering if there is a better solution to have the sliding screen door close automatically.

There are no other products I'm aware of that will automatically close a sliding door. Since you already have the holes, the most straightforward option would be to replace the unit. It's likely the best budget-friendly solution that you can install yourself. To ensure the device's longevity, regularly lubricate your door tracks, inspect rollers, and replace them if damaged. The easier it is for the closer to operate, the longer it will last.
