Hello,
I want to make custom cutlery drawer inserts for my kitchen.
Can anyone please recommend materials which are durable (i.e. not a soft wood) and food safe since they will be in contact with cutlery (i.e. not a toxic varnish)?
Thanks
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @jarko. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about creating drawer inserts.
You might like to use a hardwood timber like Tasmanian Oak if you're not after a softwood. We have a variety of profiles that should suit your project.
To seal the timber, you could use any of the following: Gilly's 250ml Chopping Board Oil, Gilly's 200 ml Food Safe Wax, Cabot's 1L Satin Clear Benchtop Timber Finish or Feast Watson Kitchen Timber Oil. These are all food-safe products.
