Brown and yucky water in my toilet bowl

APOLOGIES IN ADVANCE FOR THE GROSS PHOTO.

Hi, I noticed that the water at the bottom of my toilet bowl has lessened in volume and has turned brown. This started maybe 5 weeks ago or more. When I flush, the water becomes clear, but if I leave it alone for maybe a few hours, it will have turned brown. I have attached a photo of the water. I also attached a photo of the kind of toilet I have in case that's useful.

Also, the water is always moving back and forth, like tiny gentle waves on a beach. Very strange.

Any ideas what is causing this?

I had been thinking of getting a new toilet bowl / cistern (not because of this problem but simply because I want to upgrade). Will the same problem remain if I put in a new bowl? (I mean could the problem be related to my current toilet or something outside of it).

Thanks for sharing your question about your toilet bowl. In this particular instance, I'm going to have to recommend engaging the services of a registered plumber. There seems to be a very large crack on the back of your toilet bowl, however, the immediate concern is the backflow occurring to your toilet water. There could be any number of causes for the water to flow back from tree roots to a sceptic tank leak.

I don't recommend doing this as a D.I.Y. project as it will probably involve specialist tools especially if tree root unblocking is involved.

Thanks for the reply. In that case I will engage a plumber.

BTW, when you mentioned "a very large crack on the back of your toilet bowl" I assume you mean the line in the attached photo. I went back and checked and it was just a long strand of hair. I've removed it. Thanks.
