We recently installed window film to the front doors of our new home. We had great results installing mirrored window film at our last place a couple of years ago, but this time we wanted privacy for both day & night so we went with the pillar products plain frost.

MATERIALS used (everything from Bunnings):
• Glass cleaner
• Window microfibre cloth
• Pillar Products “plain frost” window film
• Tape measure
• Scissors (to cut film to size)
• window film solution
• Applicator Set (scraper & knife)
• Ruler

PROCESS:
1. Clean windows thoroughly

2. Measure width and length of the window.

3. Cut your window film to be a couple cm larger than the window

4. Spray window film solution to the window

5. Peel a little backing off starting from the top end of the film

6. Place film onto the window, starting at the top

7. Smooth out the film using the window film applicator (scraper). Peel the rest of the backing off as you work your way down

8. Using a ruler as a straight edge guide, cut the excess film with a blade/knife. Leave a couple mm gap between the edge of the film and the window frame to allow the window film solution to run out.

9. Use the window film applicator again to scrape any excess solution out towards the edges

10. Soak up all with a cloth.

This project was quite simple to do. The trick is to take your time and make sure the windows are really clean prior to applying the film. The slightest bit of dirt will make the surface rough and will often lead to an uneven finish & trapped air bubbles.
The frosted film has made a huge difference, these windows can no longer be seen through during both the day & night so we were very happy with the result.
