How to insulate garage?

Hi. I want to insulate my garage which is under my house. The house i am living in built in 1975. The location is on very busy road. I want to suppress noise and also want to cover with any sheet. I need some helpful tips. How to start and what kind of product should i buy for insulate my house and what is best to cover after it. I am very new and trying to solve a problem for my little family. I saw someone commented that i should check with local council. I live in Logan council and i didn't find any information on there website. It will be helpful if someone take me through to the information. I have attached few pictures for community people

So our members know exactly what your project entails, could you tell us a little more about insulating the floor? Do you suspect this road noise predominantly comes through the floor directly over the garage? What rooms in the house are affected by this road noise? Is this noise mainly in the daytime or at night?

Given the garage area has brick walls, the road noise would most easily travel through the garage doors. It might be more effective to try and seal them than insulating the whole floor. Consideration should also be given to the windows on the property. Replacing the current windows with double-glazed options would be the most efficient way of stopping noise transfer through them.

If there are other factors to insulating the floor apart from sound, like controlling temperature within the dwelling, then this would be a project that improves the livability of your home. I'd encourage you to have a look at this helpful step-by-step article: How to install underfloor insulation batts. Once you've insulated the floor, you could certainly cover the garage roof with plasterboard.

Regarding council approval, I can't see why that would be necessary. However, it's always best to check, and you'll typically find that giving them a call is the most direct way to access information.

This image is for my living area and i have timber floor. Basically there is no sub floor.

Actually, heat is also a concerned. The garage cover the whole house. The noise during the day time when traffic get busier. I have a timber floor and there is no sub floor in between garage ceiling and my actual floor. My next project is to insulate the house internal wall. I appreciate your comment and will follow the guide. Thanks

Would you recommend which insulation product should i use to Cover garage ceiling as well as underfloor house. Since the garage is underneath the house. I need a product which is suitable for both purpose. Thanks

My house walls have 2.0 batt insulation during construction but most of outsides noise still comes in through single pane glass windows like @MitchellMc says. I am thinking of adding polycarbonate sheet layer over the glass as a 2nd layer for noise and insulation as an post construction experiment. Still to be tried. I contacted a few window suppliers they didnt want you know a home owner with a small order for double glazed windows. Maybe I should talk to glaziers.

Try testing a room by covering the windows with say a winter doona see if that helps block some noise to guide you as to the best first stage solution.

This produce should fill the bill as a bats alternative and possible reduce the need to enclose batts? Also is it cut-able and fit between floor joists it almost looks paintable and gyprock like for the inner garage walls and door.
