Changing Bathroom ceramic basin

Hi All,

Need some advice. I struggle to keep my basin clean and I accidentally used a metal scrub and scratches the basin very badly. I since try using all sort of cleaner to clean but not able to clean and it just get worst. I thought of changing it to a better basin and start maintaining it from there. I checked the measurement around 55cm length and 39cm wide. And it is oval shape. How do I find a one that really fit myv basin table top without recutting to fit new basin? Did it need to be exact size? I tried finding and hardly can find any similar sizes ( which I thought usually be the standard size). The only one I found closest to my size measurement is 565mmx395mm white Centro vanity with 3 tap holes (below the link). Wonder if it able to fit exactly? And if anything I need to consider?

The basins that are very close in the sizes you mentioned are the Estilo 550 x 435 x 180mm White Allana Vitreous China Drop In 3TH Basin and the Caroma 565 x 395mm White Centro Vanity Basin With 3 Tap Holes. These basins are not very far from the original size of your basin. Both of these basins will only require a small adjustment to the current hole in your basin. You don't need to cut a new hole. For the Estilo, the front will need to be adjusted, but for the Caroma, the sides will need to be adjusted.

I recommend asking the plumbing specialist to show you the basins so that you can see what they look like. It will also give you an idea of how big they are and if they will fit in your vanity.

Thanks @EricL . Between estilo and Caroma which one is better quality? Also does Bunnings has installation service if I be were to get either one?

Between the two basins, Caroma has an excellent reputation for quality. I'm sorry but basin installation is currently not offered as a service. I suggest posting your request on Airtasker or Freelancer, just make sure to ask for references to make sure they've done this type of job before.

Thanks @EricL . Can anyone advice me what tools I needed to unscrew the tap and the bottom piping? I just got the new basin from Bunnings. Just wanted to make sure I got all the necessary tools to change.

Hi @calccom21,

You'll typically need a tap spanner for the tap spindles and possibly a pipe wrench to remove the tap flanges if they're stuck. The pipe wrench can also be used to undo the bottom piping.

Thanks @MitchellMc .by the way I realised my bathroom doors not have shutting off the water valve. I'll need to go outside my main water switch to turn off if I need to do any work and means that all house will not have water. Did anyone know if there is a be temporary pipe cap that I can close of the pipe while I do my renovation so other areas of the house have water?

A 15mm threaded cap would suit those wall fittings. You'll also need some threaded tape to seal them.

Hi All,

Many thanks for the help. I got a very helpful plumber to get it done for me as I do not have proper equipment in sawing off the countertop. He also recommended me to put the valve on hot and cold water so I don't have to switch on/off the main switch

Let me tag @calccom21 so they are alerted to your question. I suspect they either used the Kinetic 15mm Chrome Mini Cistern Cock or Syneco 1/2" Chrome Mini Cistern Cock, as they both look very similar.

Hi - not sure what quality - definitely not those premium ones... i think it costs few bucks if i recall
