How to protect front door? Need advice choosing water-based stain varnish

The door is west facing, received much love from the afternoon sun (UV) plus wind and other natural elements, surface is pretty rough now after several years, discolouring is visible.

Would like to find some exterior timer oil (stain + varnish), main purpose

1. protect the timber from UV and other natural elements

2. bring out the texture and beauty of the timber (by the weight I reckon it is solid timber door...)

3. change the colour a bit to make it look lighter and more modern look (spotted gum colour tone, as close as possible)

Want a colour tone as close to this kind of spotted gum as possible, did a quick look on bunnings and cabot's web site, lost my way.

One of the things you'll need to do is sand your door down to remove the stain that's currently on it. But before you begin, I suggest having a look at Cabot's Deck & Exterior Stain Water Based. You have the choice of watering down these stains allowing you to create softer tones to reach the colour that you like. I suggest visiting your closest store and proceeding to the paint department and looking at the stain and varnish sample board.

Once you've chosen a stain make sure to choose a compatible sealer. If for example, you chose Cabot's then make sure to get a clear Cabot's sealer as well. You can double-check your choice with the paint specialist team member.

I suggest checking the weather in your area before you start sanding the door. Ideally, you would want several days of sunshine with no hint of rain so that your door will not be exposed to heavy moisture while it has no protection on it.

Used Cabot's Deck & Exterior Stain Water Based - October Brown (only 2 250ml cans left that day).

Didn't apply any clear coating or sealer as the stain itself provides UV protection.

2 coating makes it look refreshed, rejuvenated and glossy.

BTW: 250ml generously applied to the 2x sides and the front, 2 coating, still some left in the 250ml can.

Thank you very much for the update on the door painting project. The door looks great and the timber grain really pops out. It's good to know that you don't need a lot of stain to cover the area of the door.
