How do I remove the flush valve?

I'm able to unlock the valve at the bottom of the tank but I don't know what's holding the red bit down. It did look like the red bit was clipped onto the purple bit but I can't seem to unclip it. Am I supposed to remove the flush buttons first? If so, how do I do that? Thanks

You might like to tell our helpful members a little more about what you need to achieve here. That way, they'd be better placed to offer useful suggestions. Are you looking to remove the whole flush valve assembly and replace it, or are you trying to access the seating washer to replace it and stop the toilet from leaking?

If you are looking to remove the whole assembly and replace it with a new outlet valve, then you'd loosen the flush pipe nut under the cistern, which would release the valve. 

If you want to replace the seating washer, then I don't believe you need to remove the red piece; just detach its arms from the central clear square section. You should then be able to pull the clear square section out to access the seating washer.

I wouldn't have thought the red section is designed to be removed easily or that there was any particular reason to remove it. However, you might have discovered a reason to. I'd suggest that once it's disconnected from the central square tube, it will be on a hinge system. That hinge system is likely two lugs, one on either side, and you'd need to pop the lugs out of the locators to remove the red piece.
