How to repair Ozito mitre saw blade guard?

Hi everyone. I have an Ozito 210mm dual bevel sliding mitre saw. While cutting up aome wood, a small piece flung off and got stuck in the blade guard. After I removed that piece, the blade guard doesn't go up as far up anymore as it used to when I bring the handle down to make a cut. Below is the pic that shows the blade guard when the saw is at its lowest point.

What can be done to make it right again?

Thank you for sharing your question about your mitre saw. If the unit is still under warranty there is a possibility that you might be able to claim it under a repair warranty. If you still have the docket, I suggest asking the tool specialist at your store if it can be fixed. I suspect that the blade guard got moved in the process of removing the stuck timber piece.

However, if the mitre saw is no longer under warranty, you can either pay for the repair or take a chance on repairing it yourself. If you wish to try and repair it yourself, I suggest studying the motion of the blade guard and seeing what parts are involved when it operates. Theoretically, If the blade guard is held in place with a screw, loosening it up should allow you to move the blade guard back to its original position. I don't recommend removing the screw as it might involve complex re-assembly. Please let us know how you wish to proceed.

Thanks for your suggestions EricL. I tried to take off the guard but it seems to need a weirdly big sized square drive to open one of the bolts. I don't see anything like that in the accompanying tools. I cant seem to find a video anywhere online either that may help me in removal of the guard. Hence, I came to this forum for help.

Edit: all the mechanism for the guard is also hidden under the guard itself, so there is no easy way of visualizing the working and finding the point of issue. I'm trying though. 🙂

I had a similar saw, there should be a spring in it that may have stretched or dislodged, maybe Bunnings will be able to repair it for you, hopefully under warranty, good luck.

It sounds like the retraction mechanism has been damaged. I'd encourage you to take advantage of your three-year replacement warranty and return the unit to the store of purchase. If the unit is no longer under warranty, I suggest having the guard assembly replaced. I see @JoeAzza has helpfully provided the link to the replacement guard assembly. If you are not confident in replacing the guard yourself, I recommend enlisting the services of a professional to do so.

I would not recommend you attempt any repair of the current guard or continue the use of the saw with a non-functioning guard, as doing so could lead to serious injury.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I just saw the date on the saw and it says 01/2020. Since I don't have the receipt any more, I assume right now is the last month of warranty. I'll run off to the bunnings store and check with them about this.

Update: The staff at the store claim that without the receipt I forfeit the claim to a warranty. I hope I'm able to find the receipt, but even so 2.5 years is ample time for the receipt to fade away... In hindsight I should've taken a pic of the receipt and kept it in email or something. It sucks that I can't claim warranty because of this technicality even if the manufacture date is clearly within the 3 years warranty duration.

You may not have the receipt, if you paid by credit card, you should be able to look at your transactions on your bank statement, that should be the same as a receipt.

As @JoeAzza has mentioned, it would assist the team if you could find the transaction on a bank statement. That way, the team at the store of purchase can re-print your receipt for you. Even if you can't find the transaction on your bank statement, but you know the card it was placed onto and an approximate date, then the team in-store can search for your receipt on their system.

It's also worth noting that we now offer digital receipts, which are worth picking up for purchases with a long warranty period.

Look like a series of unfortunate events... Can't find the receipt, can't find the transaction on current card. Had another (currently discontinued) card a few years back but can't remember if that was used to buy the saw. May just have been bought in cash. Frankly I can't remember the details. All I know is it was bought a little before April 2021, the same time as I built a deck earlier.
