How to fill gap between door frame and flooring?

Hi guys, it's not too clear in the photo, but there's the dark brown timber plank there under the security door, then it transitions to the lighter brown floorboard. Between the transition there's a massive gap. What is the appropriate way to close this gap?

I know with walls and timber floorboards there's the skirting board and quarter rounds. But in this scenario what do people use?

Hi @Quachy,

It looks like there is both a gap and a difference in height between the two levels. Something like a quad moulding would suit that scenario well as it will cover the gap and stop you from stubbing your toe on the harsh edge of the door threshold. There's nothing that specifically says quad moulding can only be used on walls; you're free to use it where ever you want. If you didn't like the look of the quad moulding, you could use rectangular moulding.

We also have ramp trims, but the elevation of the door threshold might prevent their use.

There is the option to fill the gap, but my preference would be towards covering it as it can be difficult to find an appropriately coloured timber filler.

I suggest you grab yourself a length of quad moulding that's large enough to cover the gap and check to see if you're happy with the look. The quad moulding can be glued and nailed into position.
