I am awed by what is being achieved by the Mens Shed movement (big shout out to Auckland East Mens Shed!). Does anyone know if there is any equivalent (woodworking skills focused) place for women in Sydney's central or inner west?

You might like to check out this discussion on Where to find women DIY workshops? Also, you'll find several Women's Sheds in Sydney through Google searches. Many of them have a broad range of focus instead of just woodworking. You might like to enquire with your local Men's shed as many, despite the name, encourage others apart from men to join. You'll also find that some community colleges run short D.I.Y courses. I found they normally cover a specific topic like furniture restoration and the skills required for it.
