How to tile my bathroom wall?

Hi Everyone,

I'm considering undertaking a tiling project for one wall in my bathroom. I have no prior experience in tiling, so I would greatly appreciate it if you could respond or share your own experiences regarding a few questions I have.

I have attached an image of the wall in my bathroom where I intend to do the tiling.

1. Estimating the number of tiles needed: According to my calculations, I believe I will require approximately 50 sheets of the following tiles to cover the entire wall. 2. Waterproofing on the plasterboard wall: Is it necessary to apply waterproofing to the plasterboard wall before tiling? If so, I would greatly appreciate recommendations for suitable products and steps to follow for waterproofing the plasterboard. (I have watched some videos, but they mostly cover shower and toilet areas.)

4. Tile cutter recommendations: Could you please advise me on the type of tile cutter I should use to cut the tiles?

5. Usage of silicone on the edges: Is it necessary to use silicone on the edges of the tiles?

I come out with needing 45, but what're five sheets between friends?  I'd say 50 is a good number as you are more likely to use more than less, and having a few extra on hand could save you a trip back to the store.

Are you planning on removing the shower screen? There is no need to waterproof a wall prior to tiling. As it stands, your bathroom would have all the required waterproofing. You are free to tile the wall unless you plan on removing the shower screen or changing the wet areas.

The Davco 20kg Ultraflex Ceramic Tile Adhesive is compatible with your painted wall. The success of the adhesive bond depends on the condition of the painted surface. Ensure that the paint is in good condition, with no loose or flaking areas. It's recommended to lightly sand the painted surface to create a rough texture that promotes better adhesion. The type of paint on the wall is also important. Davco Ultraflex Ceramic Tile Adhesive is not suitable for use on oil-based or glossy paints, as these surfaces tend to be less porous and can hinder proper adhesion. If you're unsure about the paint type, it's advisable to test a small area first.

You would normally use silicone for any wall joints as grout tends to crack.
