Advice wanted for laundry renovation to include shower and tub

We currently have one shower and looking to install one more. Below is the laundry layout and the plan that I am thinking by looking at some of the inspirations online(attached a picture which I like). This is my 1st ever project (I will outsource this not doing DIY). I don't need a toilet in laundry, have a separate toilet beside the laundry. Please let me know if there are any more ideas for the layout. And Do I need council approval to close the door to wall.

First, let me welcome you to the Bunnings Workshop community! It is awesome you have joined and thank you for asking about creating some layouts for your laundry with shower transformation. Our resident DIY expert @EricL will be online later this afternoon to help with some layouts and visuals but I'll also tag some of our wonderful Workshop members @diy_hausdesigns, @Ari, and @Dave-1 to see if they are able to give some advice.

In the meantime, check out this How-to article by How to plan a bathroom renovation by @Adam_W which has some great tips that may assist your planning. I always suggest giving your local council a call, speak to someone in the planning department and ask when a permit is required.

I look forward to seeing your laundry transform! Please update us with an after photo once it is all complete.

I like the idea of retrofitting a laudry to encompass a bathroom. Is that door the second exit from your house? I think there is a ruling that says you need a second exit away from the front door to a house. When I considered putting a shower in my laundry I was told that putting in a waste point for a shower was going to be problematic/pricy. As my floor would have to be cut and channeled (It also does not have a central waste point 😲 lol Dodgy bro inc at it again). It was something I hadnt thought of and changed my use for the laundry for now. (One day I will put a shower in there 🙂 )

If you want to have a plinth I also think there is another rule of how clsoe to the ceiling you are allowed to go. It may be an idea to ask a builder or plumber for some knowledge of rules. I had a whole laundry mapped out until I found out a few rules. I didnt stop me but definently changed my ideas.

The last suggestion I have is for the vanity with your washing machine underneath it. Loevthe space saving. When I did mine I made sure that the space under the bench/vanity could handle a different sized model of washing machine if it broke and had to be replaced.

Looking at your sketch again There are rules for how close a powerpoint/lighting can be to wet area zones. They are not allowed to be within certain distances of water. How wide is the pathway between the shower and the wall to the vanity are you thinking? If you have the space in say your garage, id map out with painters tape your distances that you know for water/power/drainage plus window and see how comfortable you would be to walk around carrying a basket of clothes ect.

Thanks for sharing your question about renovating your laundry into a shower and bath.

It's great that you've received excellent advice from @Dave-1. Just to add to the suggestions made, I recommend visiting your local store and asking the In-Store Kitchen Specialist about your laundry conversion. If your store offers a bathroom renovation service, I suggest booking the builder for a site visit so that you can get a comprehensive quote.

While the builder is on site, this would be a good opportunity to ask them to find out what the rules and regulations are regarding closing off your laundry door and windows.

However, before booking a site visit, I suggest having a look at all the necessary parts you'll be wanting to install inside your bathroom. You can also explain to the In-Store Kitchen Specialist about your wish to have a basin vanity with a washing machine underneath.

I've drawn up a sample sketch below, please have a good look and tell me what you think.

You'll notice that I've built a nib wall in front of your bath, this is because the Rick McLean's Bathware 1470mm Matte Black Euro Frameless Sliding Shower Screen can only go as far as 1450mm. If you were to get larger pieces of glass it will need to be custom made.
