How to recycle plastic plant pots?

Have a heap of old Plastic Plant pots I reuse when I can but often see them thrown out in hard rubbish. Can these be recycled via Bunnings in some way? Environmentaly friendly and a way to get customers back in the nursery? Just a thought while doing the annual planting.

Great question @Ranger07.

Bunnings offers plastic plant pot recycling at selected stores. You can return your empty pots and they’ll get reused or recycled into something new.

Went to Bunnings in fountain gate, Vic today with a tub of plastic pots. The usual container for the pots was not outside. Spoke to one of the staff who advised that they are not collecting pots for recycling any longer. Was advised to put the in the garbage bin as they cannot go into the kerbside recycle bin. Was very disappointed as I had driven there, passing 2 other Bunnings that do not collect pots.

I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your recent experience at the Fountain Gate warehouse.

I have contacted the Fountain Gate store, who are currently undertaking their stocktake, which adds some complications to regular store operations. Unfortunately, their regular leadership team were not available to assist and will not be back in the store until tomorrow.

I will get in touch with Fountain Gate tomorrow to pass on your feedback and see what is going on.

Hi @ChrisLud,

I do apologise for the inconvenience. There seems to have been a bit of a miscommunication. Bunnings Fountain Gate, though in the process of transferring to a new location, is still accepting pots for recycling, they just don't have the usual drop-off area available at the front of the store. It is now located at the back, and if you'd like to speak to Sharron in the gardening section, or if she's not in, let a team member know that Sharron is more than happy for them to take the pots, and she will have them recycled.

Wondering why the cities of Rockhampton and Yeppoon are not listed on the Bunning Plant Pot Recycling page?

I volunteer with waste and recycling education team and one of our team has show us a snap of the program operating at Rockhampton site and I can see Facebook chatter about it operating at Yeppoon too.

It would be great if website was updated to give correct information to public.

Our team works on keeping up todate lists of community recycling programs as part of our education program and it is good to be able to add valid website links for these programs for ease of public information.
