I'm interested to learn what tool is used to show heat maps, please. Not the guns that take a temperature of a single spot, but the pink, yellow, blue map to show the hotter and cooler areas of a house, for example.

It sounds like you are talking about thermal imaging cameras. Professional use cameras run into the thousands of dollars, and I'm unaware of any for general use. I have seen attachments for phones that can provide a thermal function, though.
