How to replace front fence?

I’m planning to replace our front fence of the house. At the moment it’s bit damaged and loose.

I want to replace it with new timber fence with 2.0 metre, followed by creating retaining inside. I also want to put automated gate in the front but that’s something happy to get outside.

can someone provide some guidance and ideas on how to the front fence part.

Welcome to the Bunnings community 🙂 I must admit its a good place to start out with ideas/projects!

First up Id check with your local council regarding rules they may have. Some council areas have rules have a % rule on how solid a fence can be (As in blocking line of sight)

Second Id cruse around your local area, have a look at various fence people have and then take note iof how they look (look for sag, weathering, leaning)

With the span of the fence between posts it may seem like a good idea to save $$ on posts by having further apart posts and longer spans but usually sag comes into play. One thing I have in my mind for my own fence is a sliding gate,, that means I need to offset the retaining wall when I get around to rebuilding it.

Last suggestion is to sketch it up with proper measurements (Yep I have jumped outa the car with a tape measure and run up to fences before just to get spans right )

Cant wait to see some plans (and yeah I am sure will have ways around issues for you 🙂

Thank you for sharing your question about replacing your front fence. It's great that you've received excellent advice from @Dave-1. Just to add to the suggestions made, I recommend marking the original post locations so that you are within the correct boundaries of the fence. You'll want to avoid building the fence out of bounds and prevent your fence from wandering outside your property lines.

The general steps include checking with your local council on allowable fence height and fence style. You'll then need to measure your fencing area, mark new fence post's locations if necessary and then start assembly with post installation followed by the railings and ending with the installation of railings. Putting gate automation is always a plus and I suggest speaking to your installer on what the requirements are while you are planning your gate.

There are quite a number of fence styles available, it's important that you plan it on paper first so that you can quantify the amount of materials you'll be needing. Plus, by drawing your fence plans you'll be able to tell if it will pass council rules and regulations.
