hi recently bought some motorised roller blinds and I don’t know how to connect the blinds to the wifi controller?
remote control works fine I’d just like to connect to the wifi to set up timed movements
Hi @sheene7
Great the remote is working todate I hope you get the wifi happinging too.
Its best to go back to the supplier and get the instructions on how to do that. as the steps will vary between products.
Or tell us the brand of the rollers you have we migth be able to search for instructions. 🙂
Hi the brand is smart home products motorised blind and a arlec smart home blind controller (sold in bunnings)
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @sheene7. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about connecting smart blinds.I might need to call in our resident smart device experts @CSParnell and @GreenHouse.
i presume you've setup and connected the Arlec blind controller in the mobile app? Is it appearing, and what roadblocks are you encountering? Please let me know if you have any questions.Mitchell
Yes blind is set up and works with the remote
app is installed and has found the wifi bridge and the blind is on the app it’s just that no matter what I press there’s no interaction between app and blind ?
many thanks
@sheene7, If you have these 2 then all should be fine I would say the issue is going to be pairing EZ vs AP mode, EZ mode is the quick flashing mode and is less reliable to connect where AP is the slow blink or pulse and is more reliable.
To get into AP mode enter into EZ mode like normal by holding normal for 5 sec then let go it will flash fast, then hold down again for another 5 sec and it will begin flashing slow this is AP mode. Let go and start to pair, up the top right hand side you will see EZ click on that and change to AP and continue, it will go through the normal motion then it will ask you to connect to another network be at a ARC or SMART network connect to it and then it will probably say no internet access select this time only and then once back on the wifi list and connected to that smart device back out of the screen until you get back to the Grid Connect App.
From here it will start the connection process, at any time If the device turns off before connection takes place turn it back on.
The process should continue if not try again.
Once connected it will let you know and your phone will return to your normal wifi.
A word of note.
If you have a dual band router and you have 2.4g and 5g on turn off 5g during the process and turn it back on afterwards as it conflicts with the devices.
Also make sure your only connecting 1 device at a time smart devices get a bit dumb when connecting to many at once.
I hope that helps let me know any issues, take some screen shots and upload and I'll try to help you through them.
Cheers Carl
Hi Sheene7,
I found your post by luck. Do you happen to have the manual for the remote control? Or would you be so kind to share the instructions of how to pair the blind to the remote? I just got this place where it has the same system you’re talking about but my blinds don’t connect to the remote control.
I would really appreciate any help you could offer to me.
Hi Carl and thanks for sharing,
your instructions are referring to the Arlec controller? the remote control or? the set button in the blinds? thanks again
Gab
Hello @gabofonseca
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us.
Just a friendly reminder to place the "@symbol in front of the members name so that they are notified that you have addressed them.
Can you please let us know if your remote has a model number, I tried tracking it down but could not find it. Once you give us the model number we might be able to track down the manual for it.
Let me call on our experienced members @CSParnell and @GreenHouse for their recommendations.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
Eric
This link may help:
https://smarthp.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Motorised-Instruction-Print-v.3.pdf
Note:
It does not appear to be a 'Grid Connect' compatible remote.
I think it's just a proprietary dedicated wireless remote for controlling compatible blinds.
@GreenHouse you beat me to it, I found the same information.
@gabofonseca you should be able to use your phone app, generally I would have set times to up and down and then I would set 2 tap to triggers 1 for up and 1 for down both you can save to your main screen of your phone.
Thank you soooo much for your contribution @GreenHouse this was precisely what I was looking for.
I have fixed the issue and my blinds are working beautifully!
now that I am seeing them in action I will try to get some more for my other windows. Much obliged
It's great to hear that @GreenHouse's recommendations got your blinds working again.
If you need assistance with any other projects, please let us know.
I’ve lost the remote instructions.
Battery run down and I reset, have only managed to connect remote but can’t set limits, do you have a copy of instructions?
Hi @gbonzeye,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
We'd need to know the specific products you have to assist with instructions.
If it is the Arlec Blind Controller that is mentioned above, then there are instructions available here - Arlec Motorised Blind Controller Accessory for Smart Home Products.
If it was the Smart Home Products blinds, then there are instructions available here - Motorised-Instruction-Print-v.3.
Let me know if there is anything else I can assist with.
Jacob
Thank you😁
Hi there,
I bought a set of 9 blinds some years ago when they were available at Bunnings unde the "Smart Home Products" brand. They've been pretty good and I've set up all manner of automation using the Arlec WiFi bridge. I also have numerous lights and sensors.
I've begun to move some control into my "Home Assistant" system through Tuya (the backend of Grid Automation). This is a mixed bag of success since some (older or specialised) devices work fine in Tuya, but fail to work in Home Assistant.
Two questions about the Arlec WiFi RF bridge to the blinds:
I also have some questions about the Smart Home blinds that disappeared from the Bunnings shelves:
Help appreciated.
Hi @Opagreg ,
Unfortunately, the Grid Connect controller for these blinds is no longer sold, and it appears that Arlec has discontinued it. This means there isn't currently a controller available through Bunnings that we can recommend for connecting these particular blinds to Wi-Fi or integrating them with Home Assistant.
As for sourcing one of the old controllers or any other replacement parts, it would be worth getting in touch with our Spare Parts team. They can check whether any replacement components are still available or point you in the right direction.
Sorry I couldn't provide a more straightforward solution.
Thanks for the quick reply @JacobZ . Unfortunately, this is a bit of a red flag for Bunnings (for me). These blinds were sold for about 1-2 years before being discontinued. I'm also seeing progressively fewer Arlec or Deta branded items in favour of Orion (Stock issues? strategy?). If I read correctly, Orion is the "security" line, Deta the "power" line, and Arlec the "lighting". There is, in fact, an Orion "Smart Hub" that I held hope for, but it's only for security devices. I hope you understand my nervousness about Bunnings"Smart Home". It seems that the branding creates a "walled garden" and then abandons it when the weeds get in. I think it may be worth looking at the Tuya line, however, perhaps Bunnings will become a little more standardised through Matter or Zigbee (Aside from Hue which is $$$). I think this will future-proof us both. In the meantime, I will try to source a spare controller in case my working one falls off the perch. Thanks again
