How to fix a leaning floor lamp?

 hi all, I have a favourite brass floor lamp that still functions electrically but has a lean. It was shoved when moving and the upright isn’t held by the base. Tightening the nut on the base doesn’t help as the bolt just spins. I’ve tried holding the bolt with needle nose pliers and unscrewing the nut to no avail. 
this might not be the right forum but I’m at a loss. Thanks

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @notsohandy88. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing a lamp.

In this style of lamp, there is typically a threaded rod that extends through the base and up into the lamp shaft. When the nut is tightened, it pulls the shaft down against the base and stabilises it. For the nut/threaded rod to be spinning, it sounds like the internal thread on the shaft has been stripped out and damaged.

Are you able to undo the nut or pull out the threaded rod? If so, you might be able to glue the threaded rod back into the end of the shaft with epoxy glue. If that secures the rod in place, then the nut can then be used to lighten the shaft to the base.
