How to set a Click 24/7 Digital Timer?

I am experiencing difficulty setting a "Click 24/7 Digital Timer". I want it to start 5:00 pm each day and off at 5:03 pm.
It will turn on a pump attached to a water tank and deliver water right round our gardens front and back. I have had it operating for over ten years and it worked wonderfully well until the timer packed up. I have a new timer and cannot set it up correctly. I have taken it with the instructions back to my local Bunnings and requested assistance on three separate occasions. Each time I have taken it home it did not work. The last time was this morning and mid afternoon I discovered my garden well watered, no water in the tank and pump still running and two hours before it should start up.
I now know I should have set it up inside the house on a lamp instead of the pump.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks for sharing your question about your digital timer. I'm in total agreement with your idea. I propose doing a lamp test to make sure that the unit is working properly. I suggest pressing the master clear to remove all residual programming left in the unit.

Once the timer is clear of any programs, place a specific time for the unit to turn on and off. If it works properly, I recommend doing it at least three times more just to make sure that it was not a fluke. If all the other times work properly then you'll know that the timer is working properly.

However, if it fails or becomes erratic, I suggest bringing it back to the store along with your docket for an exchange.

I too am having severe difficulty in setting the time and making them work. it seems that some of the instructions are wrong as following verbatim, and got kicked out. Far too complicated and very frustrating as bought 4 for fish room lighting for aquariums and very disappointing as nearly impossible to use.

thanks Eric whilst this is a good litmus test, the product should be fit for purpose from onset and not need to be tested to see if malfunctions don't you think?

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community.

I agree that the setup procedure is complex. I suspect this is because the chip inside the timer is relatively simple when compared to alternatives, so each function, which will be controlled by a switch on the chip, needs to be programmed individually.

Can you advise where in the process you are being "kicked out"?

Have you left the timer plugged in to charge the battery before attempting to set the timer?

I'd like to pass your feedback on to our supplier, so any information you can provide would certainly help.

Hello Jacob,
I have been unsuccessful in the last year with three separate timers. Two of these timers I have thrown away when I could not get them to work. The assistants in that department set them up and when I took them home they did not work. The last time was around June last year I asked for a refund because I could not set it up to work. So they gave it to a young man who was in the help counter. After I finished my shopping I went back and he said it was all set and would work. I took it home and plugged it into a lamp and it failed to switch on at the desired time.

In the end I spent a couple of hundred dollars and purchased an irrigation control apparatus with a solenoid valve from Bunnings and paid for an electrician to set it up which cost another couple of hundred.

All of this because I could not replace a $13.50 timer that stopped working after ten years with a new one. If Bunnings staff cannot get it to operate you should remove it from your shelves. I am a loyal Bunnings shopper having spent around $57,000 in your stores over the last 29 years and I am nonplussed at this turn of events.

Could you please confirm that it is the current Click 24-Hour 7-Day Digital Timer that is not behaving as it should and not the older superseded model? That would help with our investigation.

All of the three timers I bought were the old model CLKTS02 model. The last one was definitely the old model as I still have it and the receipt.
