Floorboard off-cuts and Tasmanian Oak used to make a serving tray.
The project
I made this serving tray using leftover off-cuts from floating timber floorboards and Tasmanian Oak.
Steps
Step 1
Cut floorboards to the size of tray required. Glue boards to the required width - mine is 285mm wide. Cut the tray sides to fit around the outside of the base.

I cut out the slots for the handles using a jigsaw and router to clean up. I made a template to get a neat finish.

I also joined the ends of the timber by making the joints as a box joint, then glued.

Step 2
I pre-drilled the mounting holes on the side rails. I sanded the sides and stained to match the base. I used Japan black stain and clear varnish.

Step 3
Once dried, I fitted the side to the base using black countersunk screws.
