How to install fence on existing asphalt driveway?

I’d love some help. 
Plan on installing a treated pine fence along the driveway that already has ashphalt laid. My issue is the posts.

Am I better off cutting a hole in the asphalt to install posts or could I use a steel post and anchor down?? I know asphalt moves with the heat so don’t really trust the anchoring option. 
Open to suggestions

Thank you for your question about building a fence on an asphalt surface.

In my experience, anchoring to asphalt doesn't work particularly well.

You might have some success using threaded rod set in place with Chemset, but this would be dependent on the thickness of the asphalt. If you test drilled the asphalt and found that after 50mm you punch through to the substrate, this would not be an effective method as you would need a minimum of around 200mm of asphalt to get a strong hold.

I'd suggest that cutting holes for your posts is going to be the best way to get a solid anchor that you can be sure won't fail due to the dynamic loads the fence will experience. You might like to consider using a Demolition Saw to help cut through the asphalt so a hole can be dug for the posts.

Please remember when carrying out work of this nature to wear the relevant personal protective equipment including gloves, enclosed shoes, hearing protection, eye protection and a long shirt and pants.
