A side table made from plywood, Pine and Merbau timbers in an hourglass design.
The project
I saw a picture on the internet and I loved the lines on a small table like an hourglass. I thought that I could make that. No plan, I just made it up as I went. So I made this little side table, from 3mm Plywood Pine Premium and 42 x 19mm DAR Pine and a Merbau panel. It was a nice little project and it is all just glued together.
I used my table saw for the strips and then glued a block on the end so I could sand them all together as one piece. That way they would be all the same.
I also used the table saw to cut the top and the bottom Merbau panels together so they would match up.
I glued the main two legs in place first, and they were square.
I used PVA wood glue for the two main legs and for the straps. I just glued in the middle of them, just before they joined each other. I then used the clear varnish as glue as they were very tight and and it was hard to work out where to put the glue. The clear varnish was good as it soaked into the gaps.
I just used a clamp to bend the plywood and use a router to finish the top and bottom and add four little feet underneath.
