Best wood and sealant for outdoor kitchen?

Hiya. I'm planning on building a simple food preparation and serving bench on an outdoor patio. It will be exposed to the elements, and I was looking for advice on the best combo of wooden panel + sealing method to keep it strong and looking good for years?

Did you have a specific design or aesthetic in mind?

You might like to check out Outdoor kitchen ideas for your home and Barbecue stands and bench ideas for some inspiration.

As it is exposed to the elements and being used around food, I would suggest a durable hardwood like Spotted Gum or Merbau that can be coated with a food-safe product such as Gilly's 1L Food Safe Wax or Feast Watson Kitchen Timber Oil.

There are options that are kept in stock such as this 2400 x 900 x 33mm Merbau Multi-Use Panel or this SpecRite 2200 x 600 x 26mm Multi-Use Merbau Panel which would be good for your purpose, but a lot of our hardwood is region-specific and only available by Special Order.

My suggestion is to head in-store and speak to the team on the Trade Desk. They will know about hardwood products available in your area that can be ordered to suit your purposes.
