How to replace cartridge on Mondella mixer tap?

I know others have been stumped with this. I've read your answers, but I'm non-the-wiser, nor do I know what a grub screw is, or how to get it out. The problem I have is that I'm only getting hot water from the tap now. Chap in tapware at Bunnings Castle Hill tells me the cartridge has gone....which means the cartridge only lasted a year. So, how on earth do I get this cartridge out?

Replacing the mixer cartridge involves several steps and this includes turning the mains water off in your house. Generally, that would be the first step in your repair project, keep in mind that once you turn the water off, your entire household will not have access to water until the mains is turned back on.

I've placed some images below to familiarize you with the tolls and pars you'll be encountering your repair journey. The tiny screw with its threads travelling all the way to the top is called a grub screw. It is very small and the size of it is often just as big as a match head.

The tool used to remove the grub screw is called the Allen key. You'll need to test each key and see which one fits snugly in the grub screw. Once you find the correct key you can start turning it anticlockwise to remove it. Keep in mind that you'll be using it later, so don't loose the grub screw.

Once the grub screw is removed all you need to do is to remove the handle followed by the cover flange. You then use a shifter to remove the brass locking screw to access the cartridge. Make sure to bring the cartridge to the store and speak to the plumbing specialist so that they can help you get a compatible replacement.

Depending on the water quality, it could last as long as 5 years or more, but if the water in the area is full of sediment it will quickly damage the ceramic finish and have a very short lifespan.

It didn't even last a year. And here's the other Mondella basin mixer tap installed at the same time, but the pocking started within weeks of installation. What's the point of a 12 m guarantee when you have to pay for a plumber again to install the new taps. It seems that knowing that, Mondella can get away with producing

sub-par tapware.

If the basin mixer is still under warranty, I can only suggest taking the picture to the special orders desk and asking them to lodge a warranty for your basin handle. Swapping it over should be straight forward and will not require a plumber.

Thanks Eric. It's no longer under warranty. I presumed it would need a plumber to remove and replace both the mixers. The laundry mixer had very little use so it's a mystery how it's already not functioning.

I'm sorry to hear you've had issues with these products. Even though the products are out of warranty, it wouldn't hurt to contact Mondella and explain the circumstances.

You can contact Mondella directly in order to submit a warranty claim at https://www.mondella.com.au/contact-us. Here's a copy of their warranty. It would be best to contact Mondella directly to see if spare parts can be provided to resolve the issue, but if there is a reasonable cost associated with you claiming the warranty, such as the cost of a plumber, then you should submit those costs, too. As mentioned, it's best to contact Mondella first, as they might have an in-house plumber who can come assess the taps and swap them over if needed.

Whenever you have a product that isn't performing as expected, it's best to let us know as soon as possible and within the warranty period. We can then work with you and the manufacturer to resolve the issue.
