How to repair drummy render?

Hi,

We have spots of Drummy Render (as per the picture) in a couple of rooms. The house is 1940's double brick, the rest of the walls are in OK condition with some minor hair line cracks in the render. 

Is it as simple as removing all the peeling render, and then use something like a mortar mix or the Dunlop Premix render, sand it back and then paint?

- Do I need to do a cement layer on the brick first? 

- Should i put some mesh down against the brick?

Thanks for sharing your question about fixing the render on your brick house. 

Before you proceed with removing any render of your house, I strongly suggest having part of the render tested for asbestos. If the test comes back negative, I suggest using Davco 20kg Off White Render. It dries off white so it will need to be painted to the colour of the wall. There should be no need to put an extra layer of cement or mesh as the render can go on directly to the brick surface.   

Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when working on your project.
