How to fix water pooling on verandah?

Hi,

I have a verandah made of concrete slab and it is standing on brick piers.

It is an old structure and surface is uneven. Water pools towards house when it rains as seen in attached pic.

I contacted concreter and they told they can’t fix uneven surface unless it is demolished and rebuild.

so, my question is can I get plumber to drill a hole on both ends and connect a pipe. Then connect to storm water pipe.

Because I see storm water pipe running under the house exactly along the same line.

Will I need any permit or any precautions to take before?

In regards to putting in drains you'll need the services of a plumber as they are the only ones qualified to link to your storm water drain. However, I propose asking the concrete specialist the option of resurfacing your concrete veranda so that a natural fall is placed on the new surface. This fall placed on the surface will prevent water from pooling over it and keeping it puddle free.

The water appears to be pooling all over the surface, so adding a couple of holes likely wouldn't resolve the issue entirely. However, if you feel adding a couple of drainage holes would allow some of the water to drain, improving the situation, then that is something that could be done. The plumber should be able to connect those holes to your stormwater, but you might need a handyperson to drill the holes first. You can always enquire with a plumber as to whether they can complete the whole job.

I can't imagine you'd need any permit for that work, and as drilling a couple of holes in the slab is minimally invasive, I can't think of any precautions you'd need to take.

As @EricL has mentioned, adding the required slope to the area would be a more comprehensive solution, allowing all the water to drain away from the house and not pool. I'd recommend you speak to another couple of concreting professionals, as overcoating this area with a cement screed would likely be possible.

I contacted few concreters. All of them told that the slab in the front is up and sloped towards the house due to movement over the years. Screed will not be able to level it for water to fall away.

Water appears all over the surface but eventually moves towards both corners as some water soaks through concrete and some water evaporates if there is sun.

Sorry, I haven’t taken the proper photo.

As suggested, i will try with plumber. If still there is issue, then I will checkout more concrete professionals. Some one should click I think. Thanks
