How to paint a metal fence?

Hi guys, I will be painting a mural on this fence, I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for a good metal primer for this surface? Will regular exterior paints be ok if used over the top of primer? Generally I would be using Resene or Dulux. Yes I am aware it's a tricky surface to paint with brushes (as opposed to spray paint), but spray paint isn't possible in this instance so we'll make do! Thanks so much!

A mural, you say? How exciting!

If you want this to last as long as possible I suggest you prepare and paint as is recommended by our paint suppliers. 

Thoroughly wash down the fence with Sugar Soap and a Scotch-Brite 155 x 100mm Heavy-Duty Scrubbing Pad. Scrub the entire surface. Rinse the area with fresh water and allow it to dry. Once it has dried, test the surface by running your finger across it to check for any remaining powdery residue. Repeat this procedure until there is no longer any powder residue on your fingers. Perform a final rinsing with clean water and allow the surface to dry.

I suggest using the White Knight Rust Guard painting system. I recommend using the White Knight Rust Guard Grey Quick Dry True Bite Primer Paint as your primer then have your topcoat tinted to your preferred colour.
