How to protect coating of painted deck?

We have painted our decking white and it looked great when first done but almost a year on and its discoloured and painted has lifted due to high traffic flow and weather.

Is there a clear coating that can be pit over the top of the painted deck (once we have repainted it) so that it may stop this from happening again?

Also anything that I can add to the clear coat to allow some more grip as it becomes quite slippery when wet.

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a product that is suitable for this purpose.

There are options such as this Dy-Mark 1L Clear TreadRite that might be usable in this situation, but I am not certain whether they would be suitable over an already painted surface.

Hi @adamm1,

I have contacted Dymark who have unfortunately advised me that the Treadrite will not adhere to an already painted timber surface.

In conversations with our suppliers, I have been unable to find a product that is suitable for this purpose.

I have been advised by Cabots that a potential solution is to sand back the existing paint to a dull sheen and repaint the surface with Cabot's White Timbercolour Deck And Exterior Paint, which is designed to be low slip, so there is no need for any non-slip additives.

It is important to know that it is not advisable to paint over existing paint with this product and for this reason, it would not be covered by Cabot's warranty, however in the circumstances it will give you a decent lifetime assuming you sand the existing paint back.
