How to improve shower floor in a rental?

hello

looking for help and ideas to improve the feel of the shower floor in a rental property. its old and looks unappealing. it appears to be a concrete base. initially thought i could put an enamel over it but that doesnt seem possible?

any idea of how i can cover it up with a white/lighter color?

Hi @anujb

As it's a rental, you shouldn't be making changes like this to the property without the owner's permission or it could cost you when you leave. I would recommend a shower mat and a selection of those can be found here....

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your shower base.

It's great that you've received good advice from @R4addZ. I'm sorry but I can't recommend painting the cement base with an enamel paint, as It's not designed for that purpose. There are shower base paints, but they are geared more towards, tiles, ceramic coated steel baths and moulded acrylic sheets. In this instance, I propose holding off on the shower base renovation unless you have a budget prepared.

If you do have a budget for this project, I suggest having the the concrete shower tray removed and replaced with tiles or an acrylic shower base. As a temporary alternative, I suggest using two Rubber Bathmat 34 X 74cm to cover the surface of the cement base.

Being the owner makes all the difference. You can get special paints for this but I don't think Bunnings stock them, they may however be able to special order them for you. One thing to bear in mind though is you will also need an additive that makes the paint non slip. Whilst the paint I'm going to link to is an American paint, it shows that it can be done.

Another option would be Concrete pool paint but again you will need to get it made non slip. Bear in mind that paint will ultimately wear and need recoating.

Hi @anujb,

Let me also extend a very warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community.

I'm assuming your shower base is terrazzo, which is actually very fashionable at present. I would be recommending you simply give it a really good scrub and clean, and then perhaps consider sealing it with something like Shower Plug. It would be a shame to cover it in paint.
